Booking for coach outings should be made as early as possible to allow the committee to plan the bus requirements.  Similarly if you need to cancel a booking please give as much notice as possible.  You can now book coach outings by e-mail at bookings@aberdeenramblers.org.uk giving the same details as when phoning.  This e-mail address will be checked up to the Thursday so remember to book early.

AGM and SOCIAL EVENING

Midstocket Church Hall, 35 Midstocket Road, Aberdeen        7.30pm 

Our AGM and social evening is your opportunity to influence what goes on in the group and more widely in Ramblers Scotland.  There will be formal business first of all, any nominations to become a committee member should be with the  Secretary prior to the meeting.  Following the meeting there will be an illustrated talk by Findlay McKichan on his trip on the QE2’s last voyage.  Refreshments will be served during the evening

Festive walk and supper

Coach Outing   OS Sheet 38     10.00am start     Western Route              Cost - £22

The walk will be in the Monymusk area then we will have supper and a ceilidh at the Haughton Arms Hotel in Alford. There will a raffle and donations of prizes are welcome.

The cost for the inclusive day out is £22 payable in advance.  Please make cheques made payable to Ramblers Association, Aberdeen Group and forward it to - Alison Mitchell, Secretary along with details of your pick up point.

Boxing Day Walk – Aberdeen Beach and Donmouth

Meet at the Castlegate at 11.00am for our traditional Boxing Day walk.  The walk will take us along the seafront to Donmouth with the return through historic Old Aberdeen.   Distance no more than 5 miles.

St. Cyrus – Inverbervie (10 miles SC)

Coach Outing      OS Sheet 45/54      9.00 a.m. start  Southern Route   Cost - £10

A seaside walk from St. Cyrus northwards by sandy beach, single and NAVE Nortrail coastal path to Inverbervie.

A shorter alternative walk could be offered using part of the same route.

Tillyfourie – Leslie  (10 miles SC+)

Coach Outing   OS Sheet 37     9.00 a.m. start     Queen’s Road Route   Cost - £10

Crossing Watchcraig, Blackhill, Corriehill and Satterhill and finishing at Leslie.  Highest point 1,200ft.

NB Gradings are used to give an indication of the severity of the walk. Currently the gradings used are shown below, mileages are approximate.

Grade

Description

SA+ Severe

arduous walks for the experienced and very fit, involving all of these factors: on high ground with exposure, steep ascents and descents, at a brisk pace, distances over 15 miles. Standard grading for hill walking in winter conditions.

SA- Strenuous

for the fit, involving some or all of these factors: on high or rough ground, with steep ascents and descents, at a brisk pace, distances over 15 miles.

SB+ Between moderate and strenuous

for the reasonably fit. Standard grading for summits taken at a slower pace in summer conditions.

SB- Moderate

demanding a higher standards of fitness and stamina than SC+.

SC+ Easy to moderate

for those with improving fitness, offering some modest challenges.

SC- Easy

mainly on level ground and often on paths or tracks. Suitable for beginners.
