The World may be our oyster…
…but Scotland will always be our home.
Part of the joy of hiking is that you can literally do it anywhere. As a Scottish-based group, the majority of our organised excursions take place in around our home country. We’re blessed to have some of the most picturesque countryside right on our doorstep. Although the Cairngorms can often feel like a rather unforgiving place; you’d be surprised how pleasant a place it is to visit from the tail-end of Winter leading in to Spring.
During these transitional months, frosty snow gives way to gorgeous green meadows. This huge expanse, which is all but impassable during the Winter months, suddenly transforms into a welcoming land full of life and activity. Spread out over 1,100 square kilometres with a broad range of walking terrains, we find ourselves there at least a dozen times a year.
When we wish to travel a little further afield, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs call out to us. Although the drive might take us a little longer than a trip to the ‘gorms, the change in scenery and terrain is more than worth the time.
Of course, there are times when a greater challenge is needed and our members yearn to be lost in a landscape that is far more alien. That’s when we gather the troops and look for cheap flights out to Spain, France, Italy – anywhere in mainland Europe with paths to follow. As the Aberdeen Rambling Walkers are strictly a social club, we divide the costs of the journey between us as individuals. There are no membership charges and you are under no obligation to take on any responsibility.
