Ramblers Gathering –Aviemore. No local walk

Sun 18th May

Walk 1    - Birse Forest    (os sheet 44 )  7 miles moderate     car contribution     £ 3.00

Drive to car park near Birse Castle (532906 ). Heading N initially, this circular walk passes Glencat, Lamawhillis and Carnferg before joining The Fungle track for return to car park

Walk2 – Mt.Battock and Clachnaben    ( os sheets 44 / 45 )  11 miles moderate/ Strenuous   bus fare £7.00 ,car contribution. £2.00

A linear walk from Glen Esk to Glen Dye. Drive to Clachnaben Car Park where we park  and join minibus to Millden in Glen Esk . Walk back over the hills to Glen Dye . Places will be limited so booking necessary.

Sun 15th June

Walk 3 – Dubh Loch ( Black Loch ) from L Muick.    (os sheet 44 )  11 miles moderate / strenuous.   Car contribution.  £ 5.00

From Spittal of Glen Muick, along the shore of L Muick and up to Dubh Loch which sits in a dramatic setting among steep crags. An easier option of walk round L Muick also possible.

Sat 28th June

Walk 4 – Glen Ernan ,Strathdon    (  os sheet 37 )  10 miles moderate  car contribution. £4.00

Route is all on tracks with one steepish section. Drive to Strathdon and W on A944 (B973 earlier map ).Park at junct. of minor road signed Edinglassie (333109 ). Walk via Glen Ernan, Sgor Gorm,The Socach and Relaquheim to rejoin track to start.

Walk 5 – Gellaig Hill / Glen Gairn       (os sheet 37 )  8 miles moderate / strenuous        car contribution. £ 4.50

Drive to Braeanloin on old military road ( 280000). Steep ascent to Gellaig Hill for fine views over Deeside. From summit , head W and descent to road before heading N to R Gairn which is followed back to start point.

Walk 6 – Elrick / Craig Leek circular   ( os sheet 43 )  7 miles easy / moderate    car contribution.£ 4.50

A circular walk in Invercauld Estate following old drove roads and estate tracks. passing through pinewoods and over moorland. Good views.

Walk 7 -  Carn Liath     ( os sheet 43 )  8 miles moderate / strenuous   car contribution. £ 5.00

Starting from Inverey, W of Braemar. A good track leads towards Carn Liath   (818m ) ,a splendid viewpoint. Return by same route or by staying at high level along the ridge to Carn na Moine before descending through forest to Inverey.

Walk 8 - Lochnagar    (os sheet 44 )  11 miles strenuous    Car contribution £5.00

From Glen Muick car park (parking charge ) the classic route  via Allt na Giubhsaich is taken to reach the plateau .Then round the rim of the great corrie to the summit top of Cac Carn Beag 1155m . As an alternative to the ascent route, descent can be made via Glas Allt to Glas allt Shiel on L Muick

 A low level alternative walk round L Muick could also be made.
