Grampian Area Treasurer

Grampian Area are currently looking for someone to take on the position of Area Treasurer as Mary Bibby, the current Tereasurer, has decided to call it a day. The majority of financial transactions are done using the Unity Bank and internet Banking so the level of work is not onerous. Committee meetings are held around 4 to 5 times a year and are held in Aberdeen. Mary is willing to go over what is required and when and will produce a written timetable for anyone interested. So if you have access to the internet and a willingness to help the Area to function then please contact either Alison Mitchell or Mary Bibby for further information.

Strathpeffer Weekend 2-4 June 2006

Sixteen members of our group spent the weekend at the Highland Hotel Strathpeffer. We travelled up by minibus on the Friday, ordering fish and chips from the Keith chipper by mobile phone so they were ready on arrival. Accommodation and weather were very good, though we had to do the ascent of Ben Wyvis on the Sunday as Saturday was foggy on the mountain. On Saturday most of us did Falls of Rogie, some extended the walk into Dingwall along the Cats Back. Alisons party did most of this ridge on the Sunday.

May Week Holidays 2006

Tenerife

From the 12 to 19 May a party of 20 Aberdeen Ramblers went to Puerto de la Cruz , this being the green and mountainous part of Tenerife. They did a number of interesting walks including the Organos Trail, the Pico de Teide (by cable car), the Masca Gorge and various walks to villages and Banana plantations.

They were lucky with the weather and had accommodation at a beautiful hotel. Travelling around the Island was easy using the very efficient and inexpensive local buses. Highly recommended by all who were there.

Majorca

Nine intrepid sun-seekers visited Majorca 20 to 27 May staying all inclusive at the Hotel Don Pedro in Cala San Vicente, a small pleasant resort on the western coast of the island. It really was too hot for walking but a number of short walks with one of approx 11 miles.

One or two brave souls actually sampled the salt water, chilly initially but really very soothing. Being all inclusive "Sex on the Beach" ( a cocktail) was to had be most days!!!

May Weeks Holiday 2007

The proposed holiday destination for next years May holiday is the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores.  The Azores are a string of islands in the mid-Atlantic some 900 miles west of mainland Portugal. As yet they are relatively unspoilt by mass tourism, so will be quieter, not having the same facilities found in mass tourist destinations. We will be based in Ponta Delgada the Azores capital on the largest island, Sao Miguel.

The weather in May is likely to be warm rather than hot, with temperatures ranging between 17-20oC, showers are likely at any time. The terrain is hilly rather than mountainous, on most days there will be alternative walks, we expect to use local buses and taxis to explore the island.

There is a new direct flight from London Gatwick to Ponta Delgada on Tuesdays, it departs about mid-day so connects well with the 6.45am flight from Dyce.  Accommodation is on a bed and breakfast basis in a 3 star hotel in twin bedded en-suite rooms.  Most hotels have a swimming pool and bar.

The cost will be around £600 plus the Aberdeen Gatwick flight £75. Holiday insurance must be arranged on a personal basis. We are hoping to negotiate some group discount, but will depend on numbers travelling.
